Individual Santa Cake made with a Cookie Cutter: by The Bearfoot Baker

I am so happy to be here with Kelley and all of you guys today. I was thrilled Kelley asked me to do a guest post for her. I was a little nervous because I know most of you are probably cake decorators and my specialty is decorating cookies. You can find me and my creations at The Bearfoot Baker. Hope to see you there.

Supplies for A Santa Cake Made with a Cookie Cutter:

  • Sheet cake in the flavor of your choice
  • Santa Cookie Cutter
  • Frosting in the following colors: Red, White
  • Flesh- (AmeriColors-drop of Ivory, a little Lemon Yellow and a very small amount of Chocolate Brown)
  • 4mmEdible Pearls
  • Red Sixlet for nose
  • Decorating Tip #21

Begin by baking a sheet cake in the flavor of your choice and let it cool completely. Use the Santa cookie cutter to cut out as many Santa cakes as you can from the sheet cake. Apply a crumb coat because it will be crumby since all the edges have been cut. You may need to place it in the freezer before you apply the crumb coat.

With an offset spatula, apply the flesh color to the face area and get it as smooth as you can.
Add 2 4mm edible pearls for the eyes. You may want to use tweezers to get then into the right spots. Next, with the red icing and the star tip, make a zig zag line for the hat starting and ending on the sides of the cake. Then, with the white icing, pipe a the top of the hat.

This is the part where I go crazy! There are so many choices that I want to make a hundred of these and decorate the beards different ways. I have to try to use self-control but it doesn’t always work. Anyway, you can use the star tip to make lines to cover the beard or you can make stars or any other designs you want to make. Just be sure to cover the sides.

Pipe the fir on the hat and a simple mustache. Add a red Sixlet for the nose and you are all done. I hope you enjoyed my Santa cake made with a cookie cutter. I think they are cute and can’t wait to make more.
