Step-by-step instructions for making this cute frog boy and girl! Fondant modeling is easy and can increase the value of your cakes! Be sure to charge extra for modeled figures.
Make a ball of green fondant about the size of a golf ball. This is the body. Make another ball about half the size of the first ball. This is the head.
Put the small ball on top of the larger ball. You can use a very small amount of water as glue.
With a ball modeling tool, hollow out two “eye sockets” and use your thumb and forefinger to pinch and shape the head.
Shape the back legs. The shape is kind of like a flat disc, narrowing down into a foot. I have a bad habit of starting with way too much fondant for the limbs — you will not need very much to make the legs.
Use small scissors to snip two ‘V’ shapes in the foot for froggy toes. It helps to make both the legs before attaching to the body so you can easily determine they are the same size.
Both back legs attached. Use gum glue or a very tiny dab of water to make the pieces stick.
The frog’s arms are tiny little club shapes. Again, cut the end with two ‘V’s to make froggy fingers.
For eyes, roll 2 white balls of fondant each about the size of a pea. Attach to eye sockets with a tiny dab of water.
Use an edible marker to draw a black dot on each eyeball for the pupil.
Use a modeling tool to draw a mouth on your frog. The shape of the mouth will help shape your frog’s “personality”!
Pulling down slightly on the lower lip to make his mouth a little more open.
Let’s fancy this little guy up by giving him a bow tie. Just two tiny black triangles of fondant.
Attach bow tie where body and head join with a tiny dab of water.
To make a cute little girl frog the steps are largely the same. Before the eyeballs were attached, I drew some eyelashes on the top of her eye sockets with edible marker.
For a simple bow, roll out a small rectangular strip of fondant.
Fold both ends toward the center.
Flip the bow over and use a modeling tool to make creases in the fondant radiating out from the center.
Attach pink bow to top of head with a tiny dab of water.
How cute are these two?!
